Here’s a profile of the ABMRC and Just a Bunch of Bikers. JBB has become a very successful motorcycle riding group in the Triangle area. “The Alliance” was recently formed and has quickly grown to 20 groups with almost 2700 members.
Just a Bunch of Bikers is a group of cruiser riders with no patch, no rules, and two chapters; JBB - Raleigh (246 members) and JBB- Chapel Hill (58 members). JBB welcomes everyone who rides, regardless of the brand of motorcycle they ride. JBB is about two things.fun runs and friendships. In February, 2008, there were about 90 members when Jan MacKay became the lead organizer. Jan started scheduling rides every 2nd and 4th Sunday to different places, all starting at the same local breakfast diner at Wake Crossroads. Some rides have had more than 50 riders participate. According to Jan, “the interesting thing about the rides is that when we have just a few riders show up, it’s not an awesome spectacle, but we always have just as much fun, if not more! One of the things we always say when we are ready to start the ride is No Hurry - No Worry” That recipe for a successful group has worked out really well. It was something that people could plan on and look forward to. Another reason for the success was that the road captain who knows the route leads the way. In August, JBB started the Chapel Hill chapter, with Skittels as the lead organizer. For the inaugural ride of the Chapel Hill chapter, Jan and members of JBB-Raleigh rode from Wake Forest and met up with Skittels and JBB-Chapel Hill in Apex, where Skittels led the combined group around Jordan Lake.
In November, Jan stepped down as lead ride organizer of JBB in order to lead the Alliance of Bikers and Motorcycle Riding Clubs (ABMRC), more commonly called “The Alliance”. ABMRC currently consists of 20 groups totaling 2700 motorcyclists across America and Canada, and welcomes all MC’s, RC’s, and independent motorcycling groups who enjoy fun runs and welcome other groups on rides. Jan will continue to stay involved in helping JBB continue their success. The head organizer of JBB-Raleigh is now David H from Benson. David is assisted by several experienced ride organizers. In the future, other chapters of JBB might be starting in your area, just for the love of riding and the friendships that develop!
